Mikael Nordgren is Tiger Stripes, an alias first adopted in 2004 when releasing the afro-tastic piano driven house stomper ‘Dingo’, on Slip’N’Slide. After that followed releases on top quality labels around the world, like Ibadan, Get Physical, Liebe Detail, and King Street/Nitegrooves and his latest release ‘Sisters’ on Loco Dices’s label Desolat, not only praised by well-renowned Mixmag but also remixed by fellow label favourite tINI and featured by Steve Angello, formerly of Swedish House Mafia, on BBC Radio 1 show Residency.
Many might also recognise him as one of the masterminds behind ‘Stockholm-Go Bang!’, a collaboration with Jerome ‘Sandcastles’ Sydenham, that came out on Ibadan in 2005 and was a favourite with both house and techno heads all over the world and his subsequent solo releases on Ibadan (The Vulture, Sun Watcher etc.) have been in the boxes of all key tastemakers over the past couple of years.
‘Safari’ – the full studio album released on Nite Grooves in 2007 was since then followed by numbers of prestigious remixes for Blaze, Dennis Ferrer, Joey Negro, Faze Action and Jesper Dahlbäck. Mikael’s 2012 releases were signed by Noir, Get Physical and My Favourite Robot and charted by the world’s top producers and DJs. He also embarked upon a joint venture with indie-singer Magnus Carlsson of Weeping Willows, under the moniker Tandem Sky.
Tiger Stripes has gone from strength to strength with a highly productive few years behind him. He’s gained a respectable reputation worldwide, not only on the underground scene, although always maintaining his deep house integrity. For 2014 great things are to be expected from mastermind Mikael to keep delivering those characteristically soulful sounds and deep pulsating bass-lines.
